What’s under my Needle – ENG Week 2 2024
This ENG week 2 2024, I have to finished three, yes three By Annie Payday Wallets. Two are for gifts and one is for a shop sample. I have used Color Collage #2 by Shelley Davies in the Ombre Colour way from Northcott Fabrics for two of them – I used the warm side for one and the cool side for the other. And for the third I used Wishwell Night by Robert Kaufman. Along with this I used the same print in three colour ways for each lining, Daisy Chain by Tula Pink in her Besties range in pink, blue and green.
Here is a bit of the story.
Showcasing what we have on offer at ENG; woven medium weight interfacing, foam stabiliser, zippers, pulls, sew in magnets, d-rings, swivel hooks, slide adjusters & double capped rivets 8 x 8mm.
My Mods!
I did modify the pattern just a little – cause I can – to suit my styling. The pattern called for 1” hardware and I decided to use ¾” instead. I did only a cross body strap again this suited me as I made the large size and I think that it is too big for a clutch. I also made the strap in the way I like. That is cut to about 60” long by 4 x desired finished width. I then interface this whole strip with our medium weight interfacing. I pressed with an iron to mark the centre longways. Use this crease to fold each long edge again press. Fold this folded piece in half again, making a quad-fold piece, clip or pin. Top stitch ⅛” from either long edge at a 3.5-4mm stitch length. I have to say I love making handles and straps in this way as my results, I believe look quite tailored and this is my goal with my bag making. I used my rivet press to attach these long straps to the swivel hooks (no sewing) in a matching colour way. However, Chicago Screws are a good alternative.
The reason I have not blogged about this previously is that I gifted the green version to my cousin today at lunch. She had an “O” birthday late last year and this was the first time I had seen her since then. Her comment was that it would be good for travelling and yes, I do agree with her. Having as smart bag across your body in front that requires no hands is great when you have luggage and the rest at airports and the like.
Come and see the shop sample at our next show late February Craft Alive Shepparton.
Happy sewing in the Aussie summer.
